The Journey Begins...

So after 3.5 months of waiting the day has finally arrived...I now own a house!  To say that it took patience and to get to this point is an understatement, but in the long run hopefully it will end up being worth it.  As this is a new experience all the way through I thought that this would be a great thing to start a blog on so that I have a nice record of the progress made on the house as I go.  I figure a good place to start is a little history on this house...

So upon moving back to Kansas in July I started looking for a house to move into.  Manhattan doesn't seem to have gone through any housing crash at all, so finding anything in my price range that was decent at all was seeming more and more unlikely.  I just happened one day to stumble across a foreclosure listing online for a house on the east side of town so I drove out to take a look at it.  Sadly, the house sold that day so it wasn't an option, but it gave me a great opportunity to speak with the realtor in charge of the foreclosure market in Manhattan, Mike.  He let me know that though I had missed out on this one he had another foreclosure coming up pretty quick.  He was going to walk through the house the next day and offered to allow me to come along with him.

To say that the layout on this house is a little off is probably an understatement, but if I could get it down into my price range it seemed like it might work out.  It was in a great neighborhood (I actually know the guy across the street), and it had a 1/2 acre lot on the West side of town, so I couldn't complain.  I manged to make an offer on the house while sitting at a conference in Austin, TX and then accepted a counter bid while sitting in the DFW airport on the way back from Austin.  I signed the contract and through closing was going to happen soon...that was October. :)

Well, 3.5 months, 1 broken water line, 2 appraisals, 3 closing extensions, and 4 new locks later...it's mine and hopefully I can take the time necessary to make it fit my vision.  This blog will hopefully help me keep up with it as well!  Videos of the house are below and photos of the updates will be posted soon.
